PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Description
Sodium carbonate, also known as soda ash (chemical formula Na₂CO₃), is the disodium salt of carbonic acid and possesses alkalinizing properties. It is commonly found in nature as a component of mineral waters and in solid minerals such as natron, trona, and thermonatrite. This alkaline salt is extensively used in the production of glass, detergents, and cleansers. When dissolved in water, sodium carbonate reacts to form carbonic acid and sodium hydroxide. As a strong base, sodium hydroxide can neutralize stomach acid, thus functioning as an antacid.
