Bharat Rasayan is part of the broader Shah Group of Companies, which traces its roots back to 1948 with the establishment of our first business, B M Shah & Co., founded by Mr. Ambalal Shah. Initially focused on trading caustic soda and soda ash, we experienced rapid growth in our first 20 years, establishing warehouses and offices throughout South Mumbai, the city’s main business district.
Building on our success and strong customer support, our directors decided to expand into manufacturing in 1970. We acquired our first manufacturing facility, International Chemical Manufacturers, in Dahisar, Mumbai.

As our business continued to grow, we outgrew the Dahisar facility and relocated to a larger site. In 1989, Bharat Rasayan was founded and established in Tarapur, approximately 100 kilometers from Mumbai. Managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), this industrial zone provides the necessary infrastructure for chemical industries. Our Tarapur facility has continuously evolved, undergoing upgrades and expansions to meet the rising expectations of our customers.
Today, Bharat Rasayan stands as India’s leading manufacturer, supplier, and exporter of specialty chemicals, including fatty acid anhydrides, pharmaceutical and personal care intermediates, and Grignard reagents.
Bharat Rasayan has state-of- the-art integrated manufacturing facilities at Tarapur in Maharashtra. With knowledge, expertise and capacity to perform critical reactions like; Esterification, Friedel – kraft reaction, Thionyl Chloride reactions, Condensation, Grignard reactions, as well as unit operations like Pyrolysis, Fraction Distillation, High Temperature and high Vacuum Distillation, Continuous Distillation to deliver consistency in Odor and prescribed key parameters in an industry driven by stringent industrial standards.
