Cepharanthine is a natural product isolated from the plant Stephania cephalantha Hayata. Cepharanthine has anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (anti-SARS-CoV-2) activity. Cepharanthine has good effective in suppressing viral proliferation (half maximal (50%) inhibitory concentration (IC50) and 90% inhibitory concentration (IC90) values of 1.90 and 4.46 µM
It has potential antitumor effects. The application of cephalotene alone can inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells and enhance the immunity of the body to play an anti-tumor effect. Moreover, it is more promising that the combination of futensin with chemotherapy drugs can improve the efficacy of chemotherapy by reducing the resistance of cells, and the main mechanism may be that futensin can increase the accumulation of anticancer drugs in cells by interfering with the function of plasma membrane. In addition, cephalotene can improve the sensitivity of tumor cells to radiotherapy.
