Ractopamine is a β-agonist drug that encourages pigs, cattle and turkeys to grow lean meat and lose body fat. It is the most common form of clenbuterol and its residual toxicity in meat is much lower than that of other animal feed additives with the same function. The United States says legal use at permissible residue levels determined by it will not cause poisoning or short-term harm to humans.

Ractopamine is a kind of pharmaceutical raw material, which can be used to treat congestive heart failure.
