Resorcino is a 1,3-isomer (or meta-isomer) of benzenediol with the formula C6H4(OH)2. It is used as an antiseptic and disinfectant in topical pharmaceutical products in the treatment of skin disorders and infections such as acne, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, corns, calluses, and warts. It exerts a keratolytic activity. Resorcino works by helping to remove hard, scaly, or roughened skin. Although it is primarily indicated for use as a topical application, resorcino also possesses a well-documented anti-thyroidal activity that is generally not relied upon for any kind of formal therapeutic indication.

Resorcino is mainly used in rubber binder, synthetic resin, dyes, preservatives, pharmaceutical and analytical reagents. Resorcino, similar to phenol and cresol, forms a condensation polymer with formaldehyde. It can be used to make tire cord binder for viscose filament and nylon, and to prepare wood binder for vinyl materials and metals. Adhesion, resorcino is the intermediate of many azo dyes, fur dyes, but also the pharmaceutical intermediate p-nitrosalicylic acid raw materials. Resorcino has a bactericidal effect, can be used as a preservative, add in cosmetics and skin disease drug paste and ointment.
