Testosterone propionate is also called testosterone propionate, testosterone propionate, at room temperature is white crystal or white crystalline powder, odorless. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol or ether, slightly soluble in vegetable oil, easily soluble in chloroform. The pharmacological effect is similar to that of methyltestosterone, but the effect is slightly stronger than that of the latter. Oral administration is ineffective because it is easily destroyed by the liver. Often intramuscular injection of its oil solution, slow absorption, strong and lasting, can be maintained for several days. Testosterone propionate can promote the development of male organs and secondary sexual characteristics, promote protein synthesis and bone formation, resist estrogen, inhibit endometrial growth and ovarian, pituitary function. It is used in epididymis, cryptorchidism, male hypogonadism, gynecological diseases such as menorrhagia, uterine fibroids, senile osteoporosis and aplastic anemia. 5α-dihyrotesterone was first converted into 5α-dihyrotesterone in vivo, and then bound to cell receptor, entered nucleus, acted with chromatin, activated RNA polymerase, promoted protein synthesis and cell metabolism. In addition, testosterone propionate stimulates red blood cell production and differentiation through erythropoietin. Although oral testosterone propionate can be absorbed, but in the liver will quickly destroy and failure, so the general use of intramuscular injection. After intramuscular injection of testosterone propionate, the absorption was slow, and the prolonged effect time was 2 ~ 4 days. In blood, 98% of testosterone binds to sex hormone globulin, only 2% is free. The half-life is 10 ~ 20min. After testosterone inactivation in the liver, the metabolites are androsterone, isoandrosterone and procholanolone. They are excreted in the urine 90% of the time as conjugated with uronic and sulfuric acids. About 6% of the unbonded product is excreted by bile, a small portion of which can be reabsorbed to form the enterohepatic circulation.
