It can be used as intermediates in the synthesis of medicines, pesticides, dyes and other organic compounds.

It can be used to synthesize 2-amino-pyrimidine, 2-amino-6-methyrimidine, 2-amino-4, 6-dimethyrimidine, which is the intermediate of sulfadiazine, sulfadiazine, sulfadimethyrimidine, sulfadimethyrimidine and other sulfadiazine drugs.

Guanidine hydrochloride (or guanidine nitrate) reacts with ethyl cyanoacetate to form 2, 4-diamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine, which is used to synthesize the anemia drug folic acid.

It can also be used as antistatic agent of synthetic fiber.
