PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Description
Indometacin is the best-known and most thoroughly tested indoleacetic acid derivative. It is one of the most effective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and most of its toxic and therapeutic effects appear to be due to marked inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. It is an NSAID that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase in the production of prostaglandins. Indometacin (Indicin®) is currently prescribed to reduce fever and relieve moderate to severe pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute gouty arthritis.
